Life is about.. Learning ; Deborah & Barach

Prior last three weeks, I was clueless on who Deborah & Barach are. Heard about Deborah but my knowledge about her whole history as stated in the Bible was almost nil. Barach? The only Barach I knew (literally) and heard of is Barach Obama.

As I prepared for my teaching lesson couple of weeks earlier though, I tortured my own rusty brain to learn, understand and get to know the HISTORY by heart. Yup, it's in our teaching schedule to teach history in Sunday School and the story of Jonah and the whale was stale. Even smaller kids demanded more these days.

After having a tough time learning this-rather-new-history (to self), I thought things would be just fine in class. Lesson was tough dealing when a bunch of super curious kids aged 7-12 and having to make 7 and younger aged kids to understand life in the middle east was no easy task.

However, I am thankful for the experiences. Later, I shared some funny things the kids told me with my husband. Those "innocent" kids did have lots to say and asked about their curosity. I could end up with an ensiklopidea by the end of the year *smile*.

And of course now I knew who Deborah and Barach were. Life.. it's also about learning new things. Won't you agree? ^^

Away "Meditating"...

I'll be away from blogging for some time.
Got a few things to be done, plus Little Eagle is having a slight fever *sigh*.
Have a long list of "things to do"
  1. Finish my workpapers, letters & minutes.. (yes, SAHM also have paperworks)
  2. Find school for Little Eagle... (aigoo.. mommy's little eagle is preparing to "fly")
  3. Continue my online class (abandoned it for quite some time)
  4. Read mangaS (muahaha...)
  5. Catching/ finishing up all the dramas and movies that had stayed in my CPU/ shelves for months... (sorry Rin-chan! this time I WILL watch them *tehee*)
Well, I guess that's all. It may looked short but do not let my list fools you. Except for #2, all of the above mentioned needs PLURALS action. Ganbante to myself!!! \(^o^)/

However, I will continue "farming" at FB. hehehe...

Home-made Burgers

I am trying recipe(s) from the book I am borrowing from my Mom.

I'm not that keen with burgers but my bro asked to make it for him and so I did (good sister huh? *giggles*). Bought a kilo of minced beef (RM15.90 per kg) and I managed to prepare the patties twice. First attempt, mom & bro had lunch. Second time, I just prepared the patties (while it still fresh-red coloured).

After prepared the meat, asked my dad to stop by at my house to pick up the pre-made patties, I cooked our portion and later... hubby, me and son had ours with rice for dinner.

*********************************************
Making the patties (the below mixture can make up to 8 patties)
All ingredients in a mixing bowl.
fresh beef should be red in colour (notice mine??)

500 gm minced beef
1 onion (finely minced)
garlics (according to liking)
1/4 cups of sun-dried tomatoes
white pepper (upon liking)
1 tbs turmeric powder
1tbs all purpose flour (or seasoned flour like Kentucky)
1/4 cups of coriander (finely sliced- upon liking... some people don't like the smell)
dashes of light soy sauce
some salt

after mixing it with clean hand
the yellowish colour of the meat is a result of using turmeric powder...
not because the meat gone bad.

*********************************************
making the salsa

1/2 red capsicum (finely diced)
1/2 yellow capsicum (finely diced)
2 tomatoes (finely diced)
1 tbs Worcestershire Sauce
-mix all together & done-

placing the pre-made meat & salsa into containers for pick-up by dad ^^

tips: Cook yours the way you like them-rare, medium, well done...- BUT make sure the patties' diameter is bigger than it should be before placing them on the grill. Meat tend to shrink and although you can press the down while cooking it (like the burger vendors did)... you'll actually squeezing the juice out as well and you'll end up with DRY PATTIES!! Well.. unless you love them dry.. what ever ^^

cooking our portion for dinner (on my magic cooker).

cooked patties.. smells nice!
To serve as burger, you can add mayo to the salsa and put it on your burger...

had them with steamed brown rice, cooled sliced cucumbers, and KIMCHI... its so... good!!

on the other hand.. I found Capsicums/ Bell Peppers are really expensive these days.
These two cost me RM5!! now... I am thinking to grow my own.. *sigh*

Free book

I love free stuff.

What even better than getting some books (hard-cover).

Well, the cookbook is not for me. I am only "borrowing" it from my mom. hehehe... Dad's company (he work for the company..not like he owned them) distributed books (courtesy of Reader's Digest?? hmmm...).

Little Eagle was so lucky to get the "1001 Science Questions Answered" and Mom said the cooking book is for her.

However.. sadly Mom can't read english, so I am the so-called-holder of the book for the time being. hehehe~~ yup, my sister was quite jealous of me. Still .. the book in my possession now is only on borrowing terms... ~~sad ^^!

Making Sun-Dried Tomato, cheap & quick

Sun-dried tomatoes can be quite expensive. So why not making them yourself? It's so easy and I did not even dried them under the sun. I had my oven "drying them" up for me.

I cut the tomatoes in wedges, and lined them inside a baking tray.
**option: you can also sprinkle some sea salt on the tomatoes but I preferred mine salt-free
Heat them up for 30 mins at 200 deg.

After 30 mins, let them cool for a while. Take them out, put them inside a bowl and dash on some oil (olive oil if you want the Europe taste or just use any oil in your kitchen -I used sesame oil.. ^^). There you have it.. a home made sun dried tomatoes ready to be used.

Why bother? Sun-dried (hmm.. should I say oven-dried instead>> ??) tomatoes had more sweetness since most of the water content was dried out (personal theory... hehee~~) during the drying process. But I guess you can still just use your fresh tomatoes as it is if you think preparing it is a hassle.

Lost & Found

I posted about my experience volunteering on the ship before. You can read/ re-read it here. Guess what, doing my so called "spring cleaning" a few days ago... I found these *wink*
