BBCET Bibimbap

Its courgette & tomatoes season.

Tomatoes especially are cheap at only RM2.50 per kg. Eating food in season is good since you can get the freshest thing at the best deal. So, I bought quite a handful (2 kg to be exact) and we had almost everything with tomatoes. For hubby and me, we enjoyed our tomatoes eaten raw, but Little Eagle rather had his cooked (if to be eaten with rice). So I ended with making some bibimbap for him. In my house, since hubby is rarely around for lunch and dinner, son and I had bibimbap almost all the time. Of course we had our own version ~ku-ku-ku~. Adding sesame oil (a must in bibimbap) adding more aroma especially on hot rice.

my version; I used baked beans to stir fry some sliced courgettes, eggs, and tomatoes (of course along with seasoning *upon desire*).

adding the stir fried vegies to a bowl of hot steam rice... and dashes of sesame oil

mix it all together... and tada~ BBCET bibimbap hohoho!!! (BBCET: Baked Beans - Courgette - Eggs - Tomatoes) ^^

omo! I just found out that some of my dried herbs had exceed its expire date days ago. Need to get new one soon or the spagetti sauce will taste weird.

A Bouquet for belated Mother's Day

It was a bleated one, but the mothers at a small church in Labuan did not mind at all.

Yup, we had a belated Mother's Day celebration at the church last week; a week later after the whole world celebrate Mother's Day. But who would mind if the mother's were given a single dinner time off (from cooking till cleaning). The fathers did everything *clap-clap-clap*.

~Though we actually ended with a mount of food later on (thanks to the fathers' lacking sense on estimating how much food they should cook *LOL*). The food taste great too and on Sunday's morning service, the mothers were even surprise with...

a flower bouquet with a cute teddy and three piece of Ferrero Rochet. (unlucky for a someone like me... Little Eagle ate all of them).

hmmmmm... thinking hard what to surprise the fathers pula next month!

Star Trek

It's been a while and now I am waiting "patiently" for the latest Star Trek (2009 movie) to be available in Labuan's cinema...

ooh!!! When will that be???

o my...
and I thought my addiction towards sci-fi's movie/series will eventually decrease over the years...
mmm... probably the coming years!

Mother's Day special: When the MOMMAs chat.. to "Why did I went to school?"

Loving Remindeer:

If you're slightly offended by any stay-at-home-mom/wife (SAHM/SAHW),
maybe (just maybe) you should stop reading this.
*hugs*
*******************************************************************************

Ah.. and so it's Mother's day yesterday. No special treatment for me but I am happy though since I was tired due to helping my mom to do the EXTRA cooking and cleaning for the guests who stayed at my parents'.

A few guests (three families) stayed at my mom's house to send their daughters to further their studies at matriculation college in Labuan. One family guest (a mom-T and her daughter-C) was unknown to us but they're a friend of my cousin-S and since all the hotel's room in Labuan were fully booked, my mom accepted them in as well.

After dinner, the ladies had a little chat while 'some' still munching some leftovers on the table (ooh.. that would be just me ^^). As usual when the MOMMAs chat, they'll brag share infos about their children (I just sit there.. stuffing myself with the leftovers... oo.. the pucuk timun [local vegetable] was delicious...LOL).

Then this lady, aunty T asked if I were "educated" (wah... what a question..). My mom answered it and the aunty T then asked "Kerja apa? di mana?" [translation- what job do you have? where?]. I proudly answered, "Oh.. Surirumah" [translation- housewife]. She's shocked and reply with a - what a waste, why bother to study then, why spent money to study far away from home.. bla-bla-bla...

Luckily aunty T didn't met the years-back-before-me. I would have burst with angst and gave 1001 reasons.. LOL.

I smiled, listened to all her advices and her telling of how her daughter made thousands of ringgit paid for working in tourism. hehhee... No, I am not exaggerating. It's true and she really said it *smile*.

>>>>>Why did I wasted my tortured, sleepless night going through my academic and ended being a HOUSEWIFE??

Should I be explaining myself to her? Nah... waste my energy^^ and it could turn to a nasty debate (pulling the hair and every thing <-- my imagination ONLY). I did once have high hopes, big dreams... but I guess I was changed through times. I still have dreams and hopes.. but in a different light.

I am enjoying my SAHM moments *giggle*. I am not offended, nor annoyed, but slightly frustrated. What's wrong being a housewife anyway?? And gets to hear this from another SAHM? Deep down I knew she did not meant anything bad (thanks for your concern and good intention anyway, dear aunty T).

Through experiences, I learned that one can't really chooses the path that one wants to. We do decide what to do, plan everything ahead (or maybe sometime just pushed our ways in), but in the end... it's not really within our control. My dad used to tell me when I was still studying, "even if you're ended being a housewife, be an educated housewife and educate the next generation" (no offend to anyone *i hope*). Guess dad was a good fortune teller afterall (since I really ended as a housewife.. *smile*).

To those working mothers who kept reading this post, I really hope I did not offending you in any ways. You have your rights to do what you want (as I have mine).

To those SAHM/ SAHW like me, proudly say that you're one because you are NOT wasting anything!

but again... maybe its just me ^^

Blessings come from all directions, in different faces, in many ways;
so start counting your blessings and give thanks.

What fruit is this?

I've been meaning to do this post sooner but I kept forgetting it. Anyway, anyone knows what is the name of this fruit? My in-law bought the tree from Tenom and planted it at their orchard years back. Now it bore fruits... sweet fruits. My FIL (Father in law) was told by the folks who sold him the tree earlier that the fruit was called "Love You" since they said its sweet like love. But I believe it's just what local called them since I googled "Love You" fruit and I ended up with no result (or did I do it in a wrong way *sigh*).

Bits about the fruit, you actually cut them two and scoop the flesh out with the spoon. Best eaten if you refridgerate it before hand in the fridge (great to be eaten on a hot sunny day). I somehow keep thinking IF its persimmon... but the persimmon I saw in google image result look more orange in colour (the shape is almost the same though).

I don't have more of this fruit so I can't retake the photo.
The spoon next to the fruit is a regular table spoon (*sigh*- I really need to brush up some jargon here). Hope that'll help you to help me identifying this fruit.

By the way, Tenom is known for having non-local/non-everyday fruits/ agriculture products. My mom told me that when she's young, my great aunts used to plant strawberries, asparagus etc but stop doing so since it doesn't market well.

Now, back to help me with the fruit ^^.

thanks in advance

RECENT UPDATES

After reading the comments and made some searching, I'm guessing that it could possibly be a loquat, since the fruit's skin is very easily bruised indeed and it's all sweet (but I could still be wrong), while a quince is a hard-apple-like fruit (which its not).
Anyway, I'll probably going to check the tree myself later in June (if time permit) and compare it to my findings..

(I'm becoming a tree hunter... LOL)

A Movie for Mother's Day

I know I should ramble about my Asian drama on my other blog but this one is really good stuff ^^. Though its more to human drama, I think the mother's influence in the story really touched my heart so I'm recommending it for Mother's Day. Its none other than ;

Door to Door. (a japanese movie)

to watch via mysoju [here]

I accidentally found this movie at youtube and decided to watch it (due to no reason - seriously *wink*). I found later that the hero was played by Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya (yup... it's all yours Rin-chan *smile*) - very good acting skill Nino!

It about a special salesman and a lying mother. How special? A mother who lied? Well, you should check it yourself ^^ *tee-hee*.

Some of you might have watched it or maybe watched the other version. The japanese version was a remake from the original American version (released in 2002 if not mistaken). A fiction based on true story. Well, I haven't watched the American version, but you might want to check the storyline [here].

Bits update on the English version..

The English version was produced for the TNT cable network in year 2002 and was nominated for twelve Emmy Awards, winning six.

Main role was played by William H. Macy. Other actors are Helen Mirren, Kyra Sedgwick, and Kathy Baker.

The story really worth to watch.

I had tears (T_T) ... Let me share my favourite lines...

son to mother:
You lied to me didn't you?
Saying that father used to say that.
I don't remember anything about father.
But I continuously felt that father was by my side.
Thank you.
Its thanks to you for lying to me, mother.
Thanks to father's words I was also able to be a sales man...
Since mother believed in me.
I am lucky, to be your child.

Happy Mother's Day!!!
